Careers
During the formal Careers program, (Year 10, 11, 12) our students are guided through career exploration
and decision-making.
The Year 10 Careers Program is delivered within the Personal Development Studies course.
It includes an opportunity for the students to learn about:
- The process of Career Development
- Their personal skills and abilities and how to apply them in making career choices
- Study skills and getting organised
- The South Australian Certificate of Education
- The World of Work
- How to get a job
- How to meet employer expectations
Each Year 10 student also has the opportunity to participate in a Vocational (Mock) Interview that
involves the preparation of a written job application and involvement in an interview with a volunteer
interviewer.
In Year 11, students prepare for a five day work experience placement and engage in a number of
seminars that inform them about their rights and responsibilities regarding Occupational Health and
Safety, Equal Opportunity and Sexual Harassment.
The Year 12 Careers Program enables students to focus on their plans for life beyond school. Students
have regular lessons to research a broad range of post school options and receive guidance in preparing
SATAC applications.
Students have access to a well-equipped Vocational Education Resource Room and various staff
members who are able to assist them with individual career decisions.
Our bi-annual Mentors Breakfast provides a unique opportunity for our senior students to meet successful
female role models. Over breakfast, community representatives mingle and chat with our students,
offering advice and inspiration for a range of career options.
